Question:What forces affect you while swimming? What are the bad forces and what are the good???

Start: When diving off the block at the start of a race you can get a lot of momentum. The blocks are specifically designed at an incline so that you start off with a lot of momentum!

Types of Strokes:
Butterfly- With butterfly you swing your arms around and kick your feet like shown in the video below. This movment propels you out of the water so that you can breathe. The key to a good butterfly is to have a strong kick and to not go too far out of the water so that you don't slow down and lose all of your momentum.

Backstroke - In this stroke you need to use a lot of
force in order to gain speed. There is a lot of dragwhen you are swimming and you have to make sure that you really use your arms while swimming the backstroke so that all of the drag that is forcing your body back will become less and less the faster you move your arms and your legs.


Freestyle/ Front Crawl- Freestyle is the easiest stroke because it is easy to use
Newton's 1st law of Motion to go forward. When you move your hand back you shoot forward.


Breaststroke- In breaststroke you use the kick and the arm in a circular motion to push yourself forward.

Newton's Laws of Motion and swimming:
1st law: A swimmer stays at rest until they start to move,(the movement would be the force that has acted upon the swimmer.) {an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalenced force.} 2nd law: A swimmers Force(The use of their arms and legs)= Their mass times their Acceleration(How fast they are going) {F=MA-} 3rd law-When a swimmer moves their arm or leg they go forward (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction)
Freestyle Turn: When you turn you need to make sure you swim fast into the wall so that you can use that momentum to spin you into a summersault. When in the summersault you then have to flip to your back so that you are in a stream line position to decrease the amount of drag/friction. Then you quick flip onto your front and continue to swim.
Backstroke Turn: This is the exact same as the freestyle except you are on your back and must flip over really fast before you touch the wall.
Butterfly and Breaststroke turn: This really isnt a turn you just touch the wall with 2 hands, but you have to make sure you tuck your legs in so that you can swing yourself around.
Finishing your race: When finishing the race you need to make sure you use a lot of force to hit the touchpad so that you dont get disqualified.
